The idea of turning water into a cleaning agent without chemicals may sound like science fiction. Electrolytically generated ozone water is part of a major breakthrough – a technology that allows for better hygiene and to reduce the environmental chemical load.
Use of Ozone Water
Ozone water is most effective when poured directly from the device into the target. For example, in cleaning toothed rails, poured on a sportswear with to remove odors stained sweat, rinsing food pesticides from foodstuff, applied to various surfaces such as a tabletop, hands or removing mold or yeast from an infected object. As the ozone water has a plethora of different uses it is therefore impossible to list the uses of ozone water exhaustively. Ozone water helps you to reduce the chemical load in your environment, decreasing the formation of biofilms. Ozone water improves the overall hygiene of your environment by reducing the number of pathogens. Ozone water is well suited for microbial cleaning.
However, when cleaning grease, oil or similar stubborn dirt, ozone water is not a substitute for traditional detergents.
One spray from the Hydzone spray bottle produces about 1.2 ml of aqueous ozone or ozone water. That one spray contains thousands of trillions of molecules of ozone that sanitize pathogens at its target, like viruses, bacteria, yeasts, molds, or unicellular amoebas. COVID-19 and Ozone Water
Hydzone’s subcontractor commissioned a study with a generator bottle similar to Hydzone Hydzonator. In the study the SARS-CoV-19 virus was eliminated up to 99,99 %. The Covid-19 pandemic has increased the use of disinfectants. Excessive use of disinfectants tends to amplify many other pathogens. Ozone water technology offers very promising opportunities for sanitation and disinfection as pathogens are unable to develop resistance to ozone. Compared to chlorine, ozone water is 50 times more effective in killing pathogens. Ozone water is thus widely used in healthcare. Internationally, dentists have switched to ozone-water mouthwash as part of caries removal and oral disinfection, and ozone water delivers excellent results in the healing of stomatitis. In the United States, the FDA has determined that ozone water is safe for humans and is particularly well suited not only for dental care but also for severe burns, bed sores, and diabetic wounds. In the European Union, the use of ozone water is being studied increasingly, for example, in the disinfection of difficult hospital bacteria and in the wound care.
Hydzone devices are not intended for medical use. Hydzone’s goal is to develop devices to be certified for medical use on the EU market by 2023, for example for the treatment of wounds and dermatitis.
Ozone Water and the Environment
The accumulation of various chemical residues used in cleaning on surfaces reinforces the formation of a mucus layer of biofilms, i.e. microbes such as bacteria and fungi. Ozone water is water without added chemicals and its ozone content is halved in about 15 minutes depending on the properties of the water used. The ozone produced by Hydzone’s devices is largely decomposed from the water about 60 minutes after generation. All that is left is water – not chemical decomposition products or chemical residues. You can generate the same water over and over again to contain ozone at the touch of a button. Ozone water reduces the chemical load on your environment without making compromises in cleanliness. Ozone water generated by Hydzone’s devices is suitable for drinking after the ozone concentration has decreased. According to international and domestic research, ozone water can replace existing chemicals used in plant’s pesticidal protection. This means clean and safe food without chemicals.

1. 1. Is the ozone produced by Hydzone dangerous when inhaled?
A: Hydzone’s spray bottles do not produce toxic amounts of ozone to breathing air. The excellence of ozone water lies precisely in the fact that in aqueous ozone (or ozone water) there is very little ozone released in the ambient breathing air and at the same time ozone can be guided to the object to be cleaned with the help of water. The ozone gas released from the ozone water produced by Hydzone’s spray bottles is only a fraction of the GRAS value instructed by The Finnish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs of 0.05 ppm concentration in the respiratory air, (8-hour concentration known to be harmful) value 0,05ppm = 106 ľg / m^3 ) .
2. What detergents should I use with ozone water?
V: Ozone water is at its best without any additional chemicals. The oxidizing power suffers from soap surfactants, which reduce the cleaning power of ozone water.
3. How long is ozone water usable?
V: depending on the object you can use ozone water typically 15 to 30 minutes counting from the moment when you generated it – that is manufactured or prepared – ozone water in the Hydzone bottle. You can press the button again and generate more ozone in the same water if you like. The water generated once is not chemically altered during processing hence it contains ozone, ie ozone water can be produced as many times as you want from the same water.
4. How does ozone water affect indoor air quality?
A: Ozone water cleanses pathogens. The sources of indoor air problems vary, but typically allergy symptoms are related to, among other things, bacterial metabolites. Ozone water is safe and effective in cleaning surfaces and thus reduces total microbial counts. Studies show that the number of nosocomial infections depends on the number of harmful microbes in healthcare facilities. A reduction in the number of infections has already been observed in the public spaces that have been cleaned with ozone water. Now you can get the same effect in cleaning your home.
5. Can ozone water replace the use of antibiotics?
A: Ozone water has often solved the problems of those suffering from antibiotic resistance, gaining hold of resistant strains such as MRSA. In international studies, the very severe contamination of Closterdium Difficile has been completely eradicated with ozone water. Microbiological cleanliness is an important factor in reducing pathogens in indoor air both at home and in public spaces such as schools.
6. Can I use ozone water as drinking water?
A: We recommend that you let the water ozone concentration align approximately one hour after being generated with Hydzone device water before drinking the same water. Even then small amounts of ozone remain in the water. There is very little research data on the effects of ozone, so we cannot comment for or against the use.
7. I went to the dentist where my mouth was disinfected with ozone water. What is the difference between an ozone water device used by a dentist and Hydzone?
A: The EU has its own Certification of devices for medical production and use. Hydzone’s products are of high quality, but they have not been tested by the Pharmaceutical Safety and Development Center Fimea as required if they were used for such purpose. Our intention is to introduce a product range for healthcare applications later. There is no difference in the operational safety of the water used by your dentist and water generated by Hydzone whilst it is of course possible that the ozone water is used by the dentist had a different ozone concentration to that of produced by a Hydzone device.
8. Can I spray ozone water in my eyes?
A: According to international studies, ozone water is very useful in the treatment of eye infections in animals and humans. Note, however, that Hydzone products are not certified for medical use Fimea of Finland and the devices have no medical use status. We recommend that you avoid using ozone water on your eyes. Hydzone will publish in due course a product range that is certified for medical use, after which certified Hydzone products can be used for treating eye infections.
9. I have used previously ozonated oil skin problems. Can I use ozone water for my skin problem?
A: According to international studies, ozone water works well in many bacterial infections and, for example, in the cleaning of wounds on feet. Please not, that Hydzone products have not been certified by Fimea for medicinal use. We advise you to discuss the matter with your doctor if you are considering such use.
10. Can I use Hydzone ozone water to clean my hands?
V: Yes you can, in the tests the pathogen levels in hands decreased significantly when using ozone water, reducing the pathogens on the hand skin surfaces by 99.995%.
11. Can I use ozone water on any surface?
A: You can use ozone water on virtually any surface for which you would use ordinary tap water to. Keep in mind that the ozone water may lighten the colors of clothing or to dissolve some substances such as polymers. For example, nitrile rubber is not resistant to ozone in any form.
12. Will ozone residues be left in food if I rinse them with Hydzone produced ozone water?
A: No, the ozone will fade entirely. For example, fruits like grapes and pears containing lot pesticides that can be rinsed with ozone water to reduce the amount of pesticides on them and consumed immediately thereafter without drying.
13. What about the temperature of the used tap water?
A: For best cleaning result, use cold tap water at the temperature of about ten degrees Celsius. The warmer the water you use, the lower the total ozone concentration and the shorter the ozone half-life.
14. Can I use water from a river, lake or sea?
A: Use only tap water. Never add any substances to the water.
15. How do I take care of my Hydzone – ozone water bottle?
A: Rinse the apparatus by adding vinegar or citric acid to the flask and allow the mixture to act for 15 minutes. Substances left on the surface of the electrolytic generator, such as lime, will dissolve and you can finally rinse the inside of the bottle with tap water. Do not wet the outer surfaces of the bottle.
16. Should any substance be added to the water?
Do not add anything other than tap water when you prepare ozone water. No substance can enhance the production of ozone water, but can lead to damage to equipment or a chemical reaction.
17. Can I be allergic to ozone?
A: Ozone is an atmospheric gas, you breathe it in very small amounts. If ozone water causes you symptoms, stop using it and consult a doctor if necessary.
18. Does the use of ozone water destroy the ozone in the atmospheric ozone layer?
A: No it won’t destroy. At the ground level ozone is always unstable. That is – its reactive, a molecyle comprising three atoms of oxygen. Ozone molecule, O3, seeks to react to dissolve into oxygen, O2.
